We all want inspiration, and stories to tell our kids and grand kids. I look over a couple of my favorite blogs and read stories and think about all the stories I should have logged or wrote down or something. I am sad about the fact that I just cannot remember all the things I feel would be great stories to tell.
I am trying to look back on stories which others might enjoy. I remember a code call once, where a woman who found her sister without respirations or pulse. The sister was known by myself to attempt suicide in the past and the whole family were pain pill addicts. I was going over the CPR instructions and the woman had told me she knew how to do CPR. As I tried to read the instructions and assure her that help was on he way. This was a rural location probably 20 miles from the ambulance service and the fire department was probably 5-6 miles away and volunteer. As I listened the woman responded back with, it didn't work. I was like what didn't work. She said CPR. I explained to her that CPR is a continuous process and continues until the patient has a pulse or starts breathing and regains consciousness. I was stressed about the call but looking back I can laugh and enjoy it.
Sometimes we try to be too nice about things too. In the area around here, the municipality also has city services they provide water, power and gas. We get after hours calls for all sorts of issues. We have member from one of the utility departments that will call 911 after he finishes with a call to let us know the findings. I know we should probably say something to him, but it's just easier to take the information and let be.
A few nights ago I took a 911 call for a woman who was trying to order a movie for her TV service. She didn't remember calling 911. She said she had pressed the 1 key about 9 times when she looked back. I don't know if it was a glitch or a safety feature on that phone network or phone.
I have always loved the arrest of a drunk person and all thing things they will say. A while back an officer brought in a person who was arrested for driving drunk and after he was released the officer gave him the option of making some calls to find someone to give him a ride but he wasn't allowed to drive himself. The guy continued on yelling and screaming that the agency head had told him that it was the officer's job to get him home if he needed a ride. The officer's laughed. Considering this guy lived outside our jurisdiction. The subject said he was going to call the agency head at home. Several months later we mentioned it to the agency head, and he didn't say such a thing, and the subject had called his house. We got a good laugh out of it.
